Tyrrell's (375ml), 2011, Old Winery Chardonnay

White, New World, Chardonnay from Australia

Past wine – out of stock. See here instead

This is a ‘new’ style Aussie chardonnay; subtle oak, hints of lemon and a clean, crisp finish.  An outstanding lightly-wooded chardonnay for the price.  The winery recommends you serve it slightly chilled, that is, the glass should be cool in your hand.  If you have left it in the fridge for a couple of hours it will be too cold and will taste thin and not much of anything and there won't be any nose.  But as it warms up it will come to life.

A medium bodied wine with aromas of stone fruit and subtle vanilla oak. The palate is generously flavoured with white peach citrus characters and a clean, crisp finish.  It is made from chardonnay sourced from Hunter Valley (a hot climate wine) and from McLaren Vale in South Australia (a cool climate wine) in many ways showing the best of both areas.  Showing its maturation in old oak and the classic chardonnay lemoniness; last tasted by us in march 2014.

Tyrrell's Wines was once again awarded a 5 Star Winery rating in the 2012 edition of the esteemed James Halliday Australian Wine Companion - this is the 6th consecutive year Tyrrell's has been awarded the rating.  In addition they were Halliday’s Winery of the Year in 2010.  All in all a serious family-run winery.
