Nyetimber, (375ml), 2009, Classic Cuvee

Sparkling, England

Past wine – out of stock. See here instead

Bottle age is now making the flavours more complex; biscuity and lemoney flavours dominate. Ideal as an aperitif or with subtly flavoured fish and mushroom sauce dishes.

Why we recommend this wine
We want to stock English wine if we can get it and this is the only half bottle that we know of. Not really a sufficient reason but this is as good as any vintage champagne and well worth the premium price.

The wine
Pale gold, great clarity and tiny bubbles. Bottle age is now making the flavours more complex; biscuity and lemoney flavours dominate. The wine has all the balance and structure needed to age for many years to come. This 2009 vintage won a gold medal and the English sparkiling wine trophy at the 2014 International Wine Challenge.

The wine estate
Ever since the very first vines were planted (the holy trinity of Champagne grapes: chardonnay, pinot meunier and pinot noir) Nyetimber has had a single aim: to make the finest English sparkling wine there is. "With geography, climate, passion and determination on our side, we knew we could rival the best in the world, including Champagne.”
Nyetimber owns one hundred percent of their vineyards - 152 hectares at the best sites in West Sussex and Hampshire.

Food and wine
This is so delicious that we would prefer it as an aperitif with maybe some hors d'oeuvres to take the edge off your hunger.

Did you know?
Winemaker Cherie Spriggs caused a stir in 2012 when she declared she would not be bottling a 2012 vintage as the quality of the grapes was not up to her high standards.
