Grower Champagne - Guy Charbaut (375ml), NV, Cuvée de Réserve Brut 1er Cru
Sparkling, Old World, Champagne from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, FrancePast wine – out of stock
This cuvée is a selection of grapes gathered from the oldest vines of the House. It comprises one third Chardonnay and two thirds Pinot Noir. A portion of the Chardonnay comes from the Côte des Blancs to give the wine both a perfect balance and high quality. It is aged on lees for 48 months before disgorgement (sediment removal) giving the champagne a very complex, biscuity nose and flavour. Last tasted by us in April 2014.
The House of Charbaut produces excellent quality champagne that delivers fabulous value against its bigger, more famous neighbours. Three generations of wine farming started with grandfather André in Mareuil-sur-Ay in 1930. Guy followed in his footsteps, planting additional vines and launching his own label. Guy's children, Brigitte and Xavier, now continue the tradition and have upheld the family character of the Champagne House, maintaining the prestige of the brand through the quality of the wines they produce.
We have visited Charbaut many times to stock up for our own consumption (when we really need something bigger than a half bottle) - read here
