Why we recommend this wine
Barolo is an iconic Italian wine so we have been hunting for one for some time but without success as we did not enjoy what we were offered nor think that they were typical. This one was brought to our attention by an Italian sommelier and we instantly ordered some for you.

The wine
The wine, made from grapes from a single vineyard, is fermented and macerated for 45 days in stainless steel tanks, then a further one to three months undergoing malolactic fermentation before spending 30 moths in medium-sized Slovenian oak barrels. This is no shrinking violet! Panerole is halfway between the towns of Barolo and Monforte d’Alba.

The wine estate
A family owned winemaker that makes ‘traditional’ style wines whist adopting a ‘nurture nature’ approach in the vineyards and cellar. They do not use herbicides in their vineyards rather favouring manual work (about 600 hours a year per hectare) and mechanical control of weeds. Since 2008 they have protected their soil by planting beans and clover.

Food and wine
This wine has the flavours, tannins and acid to go well with game, red meat, meat braised in the same wine and mature cheese.

Did you know?
Barolo is the wine area in Italy that is most similar to Burgundy with many small family-owned wine makers who both grow the grapes and make the wine.
