Why we recommend this wine
We love Syrah finding it to be between Bordeaux and Burgundy in heaviness and time to ideal drinking age but generally below both in terms of price at the quality end of the range. This wine is a good example of this.

The wine
This Crozes is 100% Syrah from vines aged 15 to 25 years old. The manual harvest starts at the end of September with selective sorting in the vineyard then in the cellar on sorting table looking for optimum ripening.
Traditional vinification follows total destemming and is carried out in concrete vat for 3 weeks. Alcoholic fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasts for 25 days in concrete vats with alternating pigeage et remontage (punching down the skins floating at the top of the tank into the must and pumping over, that is, drawing must from the bottom of the tank and pumping it back over the skins). Aging is done in concrete vats and demi muids (600-litre capacity oak barrels) for 12 months. The wines are bottled in late November without fining but with light filtration (and thus should be suitable for Vegans)
The Almond Trees is the name of the plot from which the grapes for this wine come.

The wine estate
The family-run Domaine du Murinais is located in the commune of Beaumont Monteux in the South East of AOC Crozes Hermitage. 1768, is the date carved on molasse stone at the entrance to the vaulted cellars dug in the basement testifying to the rich past of this family winemaker. Luc Tardy was the first in his family to make wine from their grapes when he built his winery in 1998. And while he continues to sell the majority of his grapes, he keeps the harvest from the best parcels, which amounts to a total of 14 hectares of Syrah and 1 hectare of white.
The vineyard soils are limestone clay and Rhone river pebbles. Their vines are grown without weed killers, chemical fertilizers or insecticides.

Food and wine
With good fruit, soft tannins and being medium bodied it is ideal with lighter meats, game birds and the heavier fish. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here
