White, Old World, Chardonnay from Burgundy

An unmistakable Puligny with florally, lemony nose and taste. A luxurious aperitif but goes well grilled white fish and lobster!

Why we recommend this wine
We love Puligny-Montrachet (see our trip notes here) and this is a classic made by a small family-owned winemaker; expensive but worth it! From the best vintage in Burgundy for white wines in the last decade.

The wine
The grapes come from half a dozen vineyards surrounding the town of Puligny-Montrachet. Hand harvested and fermented and aged in oak barrels for 9 to 10 months; 20 to 25% new oak. They describe the wine as ‘vintage of fine quality, offering expressive nose, dominated by lemon and floral notes, accompanied by some scents of almonds and dried fruits’.
A vegan and vegetarian wine.

The wine estate
A third generation family wine maker that now has 15 hectares of vineyards spread over 4 towns (Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Auxey-Duresses). In the mid 1950’s their wines weren’t selling that well so they started producing vines, nowadays reaching an annual production of 500,000 seedlings.

Food and wine
A powerful yet subtle wine that you must keep away from spicy and tomato-based sauces.

Did you know?
The greatest Chardonnays in the world come from the 4 Burgundy vineyards that have Montrachet in their name. They are situated between the towns of Puligny and Chassagne and so both towns have added the name Montrachet to their names.
