Why we recommend this wine
2009 and 2010 were two of the best vintages in Bordeaux since the turn of the century. 750ml bottles are only just starting to drink but half bottles are in their prime.

The wines
The wines that we have selected have all been scored at 90 points or above by wine critics who have reviewed them (including Robert Parker who awarded 93 points to the Ségla).
Château Faizeau Selection Vieilles Vignes, 2009, Montagne St Emilion
Château Rahoul, 2010, Graves
Château Moulin-Riche, 2010, St. Julien
Château Le Crock. 2009, Cru Bourgeois St. Estèphe
Château Potensac, 2009, Cru Bourgeois Médoc
Ségla, 2009, Margaux (the second wine of the famous Margaux second growth Château Rauzan-Ségla)
The wines range from the Merlot dominant St Emillion and Graves to the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Left Bank wines.
Even though the wines are all ready to drink they will benefit from decanting about an hour before you want to savour them.

Food and wine
They all go very well with rich roast or grilled red meats and hard cheeses.

Did you know?
Back in the 14th and 15th centuries, when wines from Bordeaux were actually paler, almost like rosés they were nicknamed ‘claret’ by the British trade, derived from the Latin word for “clear”. The first known references to ‘claret’ as dark red wines were in the 1700s when history buffs will recall that France and England were at war. The English replaced Bordeaux with dark red Portuguese wines to satisfy their thirst. Not the last time when a word that meant one thing suddenly was used to mean something different!
