Burklin Wolfe, (375ml), 2016, Wachenheimer Riesling Trocken

White, Old World, Riesling from Germany

A dry Riesling with aromas of fresh apple and peach with a floral note. Juicy mouth-feel with flavours of mango and peach rounded off with subtle, elegant spice. Clean minerality and elegant acidity. An excellent partner to mussels, crab or sushi.

Why we recommend this wine
German Riesling is often not bought because it is thought too sweet but this is at the dry end of the range with good acidity which makes it taste even drier. We really liked it when we tasted it.

The wine
Burklin Wolfe have rated their vineyards using the Burgundian approach; this Riesling is a blend from Wachenheim “village” vineyards as well as declassified “premier cru” vineyards. Following selective hand picking and gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation was done 50 % in stainless steel and 50 % in 2400 litre oak casks followed by maturation in these vessels. Because the oak casks are so large they impart little if any oak flavours but they do allow more air contact with the wine which enhances the flavours.

The wine estate
A family business that has worked biodynamically since 2005.
