This 20-hectare estate produces spot-on, expressive, beautifully made wines from traditional Alsace varietals. Two cousins Christophe and Marc Mittnacht are in charge. The domaine employs organic and biodynamic practices in the vineyard, which they believe should ensure a calm and stable vine that posesses a natural resistance to pests. A vine in harmony will have a moderate yield of mature fruit that gives a must that offers balance and depth. The domaine has holdings in Grand Cru Rosacker as well as excellent parcels between Ribeauville and Riquewihr, which are the source of Mittnacht’s terrific varietally labeled wines.. A genuine Gewurztraminer stirs up emotions: you'll either love it or hate it! The nose should be complex - common components are fruit (citrus, banana, litchee, pineapple, star anis), coconut, honey, spicyness, roses and sometimes even a slight smokeyness. The taste is in harmony with the aroma,it can be bitter when young but should be well balanced.
